Among government management institutions, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad) secured the top position. It was followed by IIM Calcutta and IIM Bangalore which shared the second and third rank respectively while the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi, IIM Lucknow and IIM Indore completed the top ten government B-schools.

Other institutions featuring prominently in the government rankings include Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), Mumbai; IIM Kozhikode; IIT-ISM Dhanbad; IIM Mumbai; and the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) at IIT Bombay.

In the private B-school category, S P Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) Mumbai emerged as the top-ranked institution, followed by XLRI Jamshedpur and Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram. Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development (SCMHRD), Pune, and NMIMS School of Business Management, Mumbai, rounded out the top five.

The rankings come at a time when competition for MBA admissions remains intense. According to the IIRF report, India has more than 3,300 business schools and over four lakh students enter the MBA talent pool every year, making rankings an important reference point for aspirants evaluating institutions on placement outcomes, return on investment and academic reputation.

The IIRF rankings highlight the continued dominance of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in management education. The framework notes that leading institutions have maintained strong industry connections, placement records and academic standards, factors that continue to attract candidates from across the country.

The ranking methodology considers multiple indicators, including placement performance, teaching-learning resources and pedagogy, research, industry income and integration, placement strategies and support, future orientation, and external perception.

According to IIRF, the rankings are designed to provide students with a comparative assessment of management institutes based on both academic and industry-relevant outcomes.

The release of the rankings is expected to influence MBA aspirants preparing for admission cycles through examinations such as CAT, XAT and other management entrance tests, as they shortlist institutions for the 2026-27 academic year.
