Delhi sees new wave of bomb threats targeting colleges

Colleges in Delhi, including Jesus and Mary College in Chanakyapuri, went on alert after nearly 20 institutions reported receiving bomb threat emails on Aug 27, Delhi Fire Services officials confirmed.

Authorities said the threatening message was investigated and later declared a hoax. Initial checks indicate that the sender may have used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to conceal their identity.

This latest scare comes just a week after more than 100 schools across the capital were targeted with similar threats over five days, none of which were found to be credible.

On Aug 21, several schools, including those in Dwarka Sector 5 and Prasad Nagar, were evacuated following bomb threat emails.

Police, fire services, dog squads, and bomb disposal units were deployed, but no explosives were discovered.

Earlier, on Aug 18, Delhi Public School in Dwarka received a similar email, prompting emergency measures. That threat was also confirmed to be baseless.

The recurrence of such hoax emails has disrupted classes and triggered anxiety among parents, students, and staff.

Last month, over 50 schools switched temporarily to online classes after receiving similar threats.

Institutions such as Abhinav Public School in Rohini, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, St Stephen's College, and St Thomas School in Dwarka were among those targeted.

On July 17, at least seven schools were affected by threatening emails, while in May, over 200 schools, along with hospitals, colleges, and even Indira Gandhi International Airport, were targeted.

Investigations into several of those cases remain open, particularly those traced to foreign VPNs.

Authorities said, “While all threats so far have been declared hoaxes, the repeated incidents are alarming and continue to create unnecessary panic across the city.”
