Delhi Police discovered that bomb threat emails sent to at least three schools were sent by their own students, including two siblings at Venkateshwar Global School, who wanted exams postponed due to lack of preparation.
The Delhi Police have found that at least three schools that received bomb threat emails were actually the victims of their own students.
A day after an unexplained explosion at the Rohini Prashant Vihar PVR Multiplex on Nov 28, Venkateshwar Global School was one of numerous schools that got bomb threats in an email.
According to a police officer, the email was sent by two siblings who were enrolled in the school and wanted the examinations postponed.
Both children disclosed during counseling that they got the idea from prior instances of bomb threats being made to schools, police said.
"After investigation by the Special Cell of Delhi Police, it was found that the emails were sent to both schools by two different students of the same school. Both students had sent this email to stop the exam because they were not prepared for the exam paper," Delhi Police said.
"Since both of them were students, they were counselled and then let off," they added.
After warning their parents, they were permitted to leave.
Police thoroughly inspected the school following the report of the email and found that the threat was a hoax.
Another police official said that students at two more schools in Paschim Vihar and Rohini wrote threatening emails on Dec 14.
The reason was the same, students wanted the schools to be closed.
More than 100 schools in Delhi have received bomb threats in the last 11 days, causing alarm.
The fact that the emails were delivered using a virtual private network, or VPN, has made it difficult for the police to find the culprits.
Since May of this year, Delhi's schools, hospitals, airports, and aviation companies have all been the target of more than 50 bomb threat emails.
