Delhi aims to make Narela education hub part of new university townships

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the city will seek to include the proposed Narela education hub among the five new university townships announced in this year’s Union Budget.

Speaking at a press conference, Gupta described the Budget as “balanced” and said it offers opportunities for all sections, including women and youth.

She highlighted initiatives to develop content creator labs at schools and colleges to promote the animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC) sector.

“To promote emerging sectors such as AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics), the Central Government is planning to establish 'Content Creation Labs' in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges across the country. Under this initiative, the Delhi government will also integrate the city's secondary schools and colleges,” Gupta said.

The chief minister said Delhi will leverage the Budget’s increased special assistance of ₹15,380 crore for Delhi and Puducherry, up from ₹6,275 crore in the current fiscal, to strengthen education, infrastructure, and development projects.

“Overall, the budget balances development, reform, and relief. The budget is anchored in youth power and reinforces the government's commitment to the poor,” Gupta added.

Delhi will also benefit from higher allocations under centrally sponsored schemes, receiving ₹13,611 crore compared to ₹12,483 crore in 2025-26.

Gupta highlighted Budget provisions for girls’ hostels in every district, clean energy incentives, and increased funding for central government hospitals, noting that lakhs of residents will benefit directly.

“A provision of ₹1,348 crore has been made as direct central assistance to Delhi. This amount will be spent on infrastructure, water, and other basic facilities,” the chief minister said.

She added that projects such as the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant will improve supply, increase water pressure in older areas, and advance the goal of round-the-clock availability.

Gupta also emphasized opportunities for youth in skill development, technology, and employment, with special focus on jobs in health, sports, and tourism.

She pointed to the announcement of the Delhi-Varanasi high-speed rail corridor as a major boost for transport infrastructure.

“Seven high-speed rail corridors will be developed across the country, including one between Delhi and Varanasi,” she said, adding that the projects will ease travel, promote tourism, boost trade, create employment, and strengthen Delhi’s position as a major economic and transport hub.
