The Ministry of Railways has allocated a record ₹2,711 crore for Delhi’s railway infrastructure in 2026-27, up from ₹2,593 crore last year, signaling a massive upgrade for the capital’s transit system.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the country’s first bullet train connecting Delhi to Varanasi, cutting travel time to just 3 hours 50 minutes. The route will extend to Siliguri via Patna in under 3 hours, creating a high-speed corridor linking Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal.
“This corridor will ignite growth in healthcare, education, and commerce, transforming the region’s economy,” Vaishnaw said.

Delhi is currently seeing ₹8,976 crore invested in track creation, station redevelopment, and safety improvements. Under the Amrit Station Scheme, 13 stations—including New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar, and Delhi Cantt.—are undergoing ₹5,887 crore in redevelopment.
Delhi has achieved 100% electrification. Premium services now include 14 pairs of Vande Bharat Express and 8 pairs of Amrit Bharat trains, boosting faster and greener travel options.
With a historic nationwide railway budget of ₹2,78,030 crore and a capital expenditure of ₹2,93,030 crore, India is fast-tracking high-speed connectivity, freight modernization, and passenger safety, driving a new era in rail transport.
