Smart Village Center RuTAGe (RSVC): Way to rural technological innovation

RuTAGe model for a smart village center (RSVC). It was conceived by the Principal Scientific Advisor's Office (PSA).

It is intended to be a long-term fixture at the Panchayat level, offering extensive support to meet the technical requirements of 15–20 villages over a number of years. In 2024, it received the top honor at the NSE's Social Stock Exchange event in Varanasi.

Technology utilised

• Developed by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, RuTAG Technologies is a product of seven IITs.
• Livelihood & Entrepreneurship: In Uttar Pradesh, programs like NRLM are used to encourage local entrepreneurship.
• Renewable Energy: Wind and solar hybrid technologies, alongside technical support from the SELCO Foundation.
• WASH: Solutions for water, sanitation, and waste management, such as weVois and Aquamaps from IIT Madra.
• FinTech: Apps for financial inclusion and AR/VR technology created by XR Group and IISC.
• Building Capacity: Research and capacity-building projects with Tier 2 and Tier 3 colleges, where NIFTEM serves as a facility to test the production of biscuits using ingredients that are sourced locally, such as ghee and sugar. NAARM is working to increase the RSVC center heads' capacity.
• Government Scheme Apps: These citizen-focused apps for welfare, technology, and science programs spread government schemes.
• Assistive Technologies: The Assistive Technology Foundation offers solutions for people with disabilities.

In order to ensure that innovation reaches grassroots communities, RSVC seeks to close the gap between rural needs and technological advancements. Focuses on solving issues such as organic farming, animal intrusion, and technologies that improve livelihoods.
