The Sagarmala Start Up Innovation Initiative (S2I2) was created to encourage port-led development
S2I2 was presented at the 4th National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC) meeting. The meeting also covered plans to upgrade to Sagarmala 2.0.
Key points S2I2:
Goal: Assisting start-up companies in industries such as green shipping, smart ports, shipbuilding technology, maritime logistics, and sustainable coastal development.
Research, Innovation, Startups, and Entrepreneurship, or RISE, will be expedited.
It will offer funding, industry partnerships, and mentorship to promote creative solutions.
Sagarmala 2.0: A new focus on shipbuilding, ship repair, ship breaking, and ship recycling will enhance the Sagarmala Program.
It is intended to achieve the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision (MAKV 2047), which aims to rank India among the top five shipbuilding nations in the world and increase port handling capacity to 10 billion metric tons annually.
Regarding the 2015 Sagarmala Program
India's 14,500 km of potentially navigable waterways and 7,500 km of coastline are intended to be used to boost the country's economic growth.
Reducing the cost of logistics for both domestic and international freight is its aim.
The Apex Body is the Ministry of Waterways, Shipping, and Ports (NSAC).
The five key pillars are port connectivity, port-led industry, coastal community development, inland waterways, and coastal shipping.
