The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), directing its affiliated schools, has released an advisory encouraging them to appropriately access practical exams due to a significant gap between theory and practical marks in certain subjects. The advisory clearly mentioned reviewing the internal assessment processes.
Based on the previous year's result figures, CBSE said in a notice that it had "discovered, through advanced AI tools, a significant variation between theory and practical marks in certain subjects among 50% or more students in about 500 CBSE-affiliated schools."
This change, according to the Board, emphasizes the necessity of "meticulous assessment during practical examinations in schools."
"The objective is to put in place a more robust, transparent, and trustworthy mechanism to guarantee that the assessment process is realistic and significantly enhances the academic journey of the students."
Inflation in marks has become a major problem in recent years. State boards have also seen a rise in the pass rate and the proportion of candidates who scored higher than 90% in their Class 10 and 12 board exams. As a result, there is strong competition for admission to colleges.
