The launched course combines online classes with campus-based laboratory training and offers flexible completion timelines along with multiple academic exit options for enrolled students.

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has launched a new hybrid MTech program in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence aimed at both recent graduates and working professionals. The course will be offered through the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability.
Applications for the first batch are currently open, and candidates can apply until July 15, 2026. The academic session is scheduled to commence on Aug 10, 2026.

Program Structure and Learning Format
The newly introduced MTech program has been designed to combine flexible online learning with practical campus-based training.
While regular classes will be conducted online, laboratory sessions and final examinations will take place at the IIT Guwahati campus.
The curriculum focuses on robotics, artificial intelligence, automation, machine learning, and computer vision with an interdisciplinary approach.
According to the institute, the program has been introduced to address the growing demand for professionals skilled in emerging technologies across sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, defense, transportation, and smart infrastructure.
According to Prof Hemant B Kaushik, Dean of Outreach Education and Skilling at IIT Guwahati, the program offers flexible and industry-oriented learning with a strong focus on practical applications and emerging technologies.
Admission Process
The institute has clarified that candidates will not be required to submit GATE scores for admission. Selection will instead be conducted through institute-level written tests and interviews.
Students enrolled in the program can complete the degree in a minimum of two years, while the maximum duration permitted is five years. IIT Guwahati will also provide recorded lectures to allow learners to study at their convenience.
The program follows a multiple-entry and multiple-exit framework, enabling students to receive qualifications at different stages of completion.
Depending on the duration and credits earned, students can obtain a PG Certificate, PG Diploma, Master of Science (Engineering), and eventually an MTech degree in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must possess a four-year or five-year bachelor’s degree in disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Information Technology, Design, or related fields.
Candidates are required to secure at least 60% marks or 6.0 CPI in their qualifying degree. They must also have studied Mathematics up to the Class 12 level.
