Iran has responded to the US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz with an unusual mix of satire and signalling, using Bollywood references and memes while also issuing warnings about its military preparedness.
In a widely shared social media post, the Iranian consulate in Mumbai shared a clip from the Bollywood film Dhamaal, mocking the US move to impose a blockade. The post described “Indian memes” as the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time), using humour to criticise Washington’s decision.

The cultural messaging did not stop there. In another instance, Iranian officials invoked a popular Bollywood line from Shah Rukh Khan starrer Om Shanti Om — “picture abhi baaki hai” — to suggest that the situation is far from over, in response to US President Donald Trump’s claims about weakening Iran’s naval capabilities.
Alongside the online mockery, Iran also signalled a more serious message. Reports indicated that Tehran warned its missile boats were “warming up,” underlining that its naval forces remain active and ready amid the escalating standoff.
The developments come after the United States imposed a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports on April 13 following failed negotiations, significantly raising tensions in the region. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route, has since become the focal point of the confrontation.
While the tone on social media appeared humorous, the accompanying military warnings point to continued escalation risks in the Gulf region.
