A speeding car rammed an e-rickshaw near Janakpuri Fire Station, fatally injuring a six-year-old girl as her grandmother’s pleas for help allegedly went unanswered; police have arrested the accused driver and seized the vehicle.

A six-year-old girl died in a hit-and-run incident in Delhi, her anguished grandmother saying she begged the driver of the vehicle for help as the child lay injured on the road. The tragedy occurred in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area on the morning of Feb 17, police and family members said.
The girl’s grandmother, who was accompanying her at the time, told reporters that the vehicle struck the child and sped away without stopping. She claimed she pleaded with the driver and passengers to help the injured child, but the vehicle drove off, leaving the girl on the road.

The injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital by local residents, but doctors declared her dead on arrival, police said. The exact circumstances leading to the collision and the identity of the vehicle remain under investigation.
Police reached the scene after receiving information about the accident. The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run has not yet been traced, and police said they are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the car and its occupants.
Police said they registered a case at the Janakpuri police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by rash and negligent driving.
The offending vehicle was seized and the accused driver, identified as Sanjeev from Majra Dabas, was apprehended.
Statements of witnesses are being recorded and CCTV footage from near the fire station and surrounding areas is being examined to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Authorities said the grandmother, who also sustained injuries in the crash, is currently receiving treatment and is in a stable condition.
