After the recent Porsche accident, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has directed all local vehicle dealers to ensure that vehicles are properly registered before they are allowed on the road.

The RTO officials have pointed out that the Porsche involved in the accident was purchased in Bengaluru and was registered under the name of the minor accused's father. However, the final registration process was still pending after a temporary registration was obtained in Bengaluru.

An official from the RTO stated that while there is no current data on the number of unregistered vehicles in the city, an inspection of vehicle registrations is in progress. He explained, "When a vehicle is brought in from another state, the dealer there provides a temporary registration. In this particular case, the dealer in Bengaluru had completed the temporary registration, but the owner had not yet completed the remaining process."

Sanjeev Bhor, an RTO official in Pune, stated, “We have sent out a notice to all vehicle dealers in the city, making registration mandatory. We have also deployed flying squads across the city to check vehicle registrations. If our team discovers vehicles on the city roads without either temporary or permanent registration, the dealer's business license could be suspended for a period ranging from 15 days to six months.”

He further added that once a temporary registration is obtained, it is the vehicle owner's responsibility to complete the registration with the concerned RTO. In cases where the vehicle is brought in from outside Maharashtra, the owner should have immediately completed the process, said another RTO official.

Regarding the Juvenile Justice Board's (JJB) order to assist the accused in learning traffic rules and regulations, Bhor mentioned that the RTO has not yet received any instructions from the JJB following the accident.
