The facility, planned at a veterinary university campus in Mathura, will feature exhibits on native breeds, dairy products and traditional practices linked to cattle.

The Uttar Pradesh state government has announced plans to establish India’s first National Cow Culture Museum in Mathura, aimed at celebrating the cultural, religious and scientific importance of the cow.
The museum will be developed within the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Science University campus in Mathura, the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad said following an official meeting.

Officials selected the land for the project during a gathering of district authorities and parishad representatives, including Agra Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap, who outlined the museum’s focus on blending tradition with scientific understanding of cattle and their products.
The museum is expected to display around 100 digital and physical models representing cattle breeds from across India, including rare and endangered varieties, to educate future generations on the nation’s diverse bovine heritage. Exhibits will include informational panels and interactive displays on the characteristics, habitats and roles of these breeds.
A key highlight will be a dedicated exhibition on cow milk and dairy products, including milk, curd, cheese and ghee. Exhibits will explain the scientific, nutritional and Ayurvedic benefits of these products using modern presentation techniques, parishad officials said.
To enhance visitor engagement, the museum complex will also feature a dairy parlour offering pure dairy products, bringing a practical and sensory dimension to the experience.
Officials say the initiative underscores the religious and cultural significance of cows in Indian tradition, where they are often revered as a symbol of motherhood and revered in Sanatan practices.
The museum aims to convey that cow conservation is not only an economic or agricultural concern but also deeply linked with cultural values and public welfare.
The project has received support and directives from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration, which views the museum as a way to promote the identity of the Braj region while advancing scientific approaches to cattle conservation and education.
Representatives from the Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad, the district administration, the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority and the veterinary university inspected the project site and discussed plans for moving forward.
