Jindal Steel has signed an agreement with Sohar University to establish a skills training centre in Oman, combining the university’s academic expertise with the company’s industrial experience to prepare young Omanis for jobs in advanced manufacturing and technology.

The initiative is intended to strengthen technical capabilities among Omani youth and help develop a skilled workforce for the country’s industrial sector, according to the announcement made on Oct 11.

Training to focus on advanced manufacturing

The centre will provide practical training in industrial skills relevant to evolving manufacturing technologies. By bringing together Sohar University’s academic capabilities and Jindal Steel’s industry experience, the initiative seeks to connect education with the technical requirements of industrial workplaces.

The announcement did not specify the centre’s opening date, training duration, enrolment capacity or the qualifications participants will receive.

Partnership linked to Oman Vision 2040

Naveen Jindal, chairman of the Naveen Jindal Group, said the initiative was intended to equip young Omanis with practical skills and prepare them to contribute to emerging industries.

He said the centre aligned with Oman Vision 2040, the country’s long-term development strategy, and would support youth empowerment and the development of national industrial capabilities.

He also said the initiative could help Jindal Steel and related manufacturing companies advance the localisation of technical leadership roles.

Harssha Shetty, CEO of Jindal Steel Oman, said investing in young people’s skills was important to preparing the country for future technologies and supporting national development.

Supporting workforce development in Oman

The centre is part of Jindal Steel’s broader efforts to build skills and workforce capacity in Oman. Developing local technical expertise is also relevant to Omanisation, the country’s efforts to increase the participation of Omani nationals in the workforce, including technical and leadership positions.

The agreement brings a private-sector industrial company and a higher education institution together around vocational and technical skills development. Further details on the centre’s implementation and training programmes have not yet been announced.
