WBCHSE warns students against fake semester system circular, files FIR

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has dismissed a viral notification on social media claiming that the semester system for the 2027 higher secondary examination had been scrapped.

The fake circular, dated April 1 and bearing the council’s name and logo, falsely stated that students would continue under the traditional annual exam format and directed schools to follow the “old syllabus and pattern.”

A senior council official confirmed, “We categorically state that the notice circulated on social media is fake and has not been issued by the council. Students, guardians, and schools are advised not to be misled by such misinformation.”

Taking the issue seriously, the council has filed an FIR against those responsible for creating and spreading the forged notification.

The official added, “The circulation of such fabricated documents is a matter of concern, as it creates unnecessary confusion among students. We have filed an FIR, and appropriate legal action will follow.”

The WBCHSE urged stakeholders to rely only on official channels, such as its website, for updates regarding the higher secondary examination system. The council had earlier confirmed that two semester exams for class 12 would be held annually.

In related news, the West Bengal government plans to introduce contemporary, project-based subjects at the Higher Secondary level from the next academic session to boost student engagement and align education with emerging career fields, said Chiranjib Bhattacharya, president of WBCHSE.

Several subjects introduced in the past three years will now be part of Council Assisted Courses (CAC), including Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (AIDS), Applied Artificial Intelligence (APAI), and Cyber Security (CBST).

Additionally, new project-based subjects will be launched under Council Taught Courses (CTC), with direct oversight by the council and provision for regular online classes beyond school hours.
