Raj Bhavan also confirmed the appointments of Prof Uday Bandyopadhyay as Vice-Chancellor of Kazi Nazrul University and Prof Chiranjib Bhattacharjee as Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University.

The appointments, which take immediate effect, were approved by Governor C V Ananda Bose in his capacity as Chancellor of state universities.

Soon after the announcement, State Education Minister Bratya Basu said all the new appointees were chosen in line with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recommendations.

“Today, in six more state government-aided universities, the vice-chancellors of the Honorable Chief Minister’s first choice have been appointed. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of them!” Basu said in a post on X.

The latest round of appointments follows earlier disputes between the Education Department and the Raj Bhavan over the selection of university heads.

These disagreements have repeatedly underscored tensions surrounding administrative control in West Bengal’s higher education system.
