UP to recruit over 17,000 education posts, exams scheduled for Nov and Dec

Assistant teachers, lecturers, principals and assistant professors are among the posts on offer with government targeting to fill 1 lakh government vacancies within six months.

Uttar Pradesh is moving ahead with recruitment for 17,059 posts across its education sector, with written examinations scheduled for November and December 2026. The vacancies span higher, secondary and basic education, offering opportunities for candidates seeking government teaching and academic positions.

The recruitment drive is part of the state government’s broader target of filling 1 lakh government posts within six months. The education vacancies account for around 17% of that target.

Prashant Kumar, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), said recruitment for 2,047 posts in the Higher Education Department is currently underway. These include 111 principal posts and 1,936 assistant professor posts.

The written examination for assistant professor recruitment is scheduled for November 19 and 20, 2026.

3,504 vacancies in secondary education

The Secondary Education Department will recruit candidates for 3,504 posts, including 897 assistant teachers and 2,607 lecturers.

The written examination for assistant teacher posts is tentatively scheduled for December 3 and 4, while the lecturer recruitment examination is proposed for December 15 and 16, 2026.

Candidates should check official notifications for confirmation of the examination schedule and other recruitment-related instructions.

Basic education accounts for 11,508 posts

The Basic Education Department accounts for the largest share of the recruitment drive, with 11,508 vacancies for assistant teachers in urban primary schools.

The examination for these posts has been proposed for December 3 and 4, 2026.

In addition to the recruitment examinations, the state will also conduct a Special Teacher Eligibility Test (Special TET).

Recruitment drive targets govt job vacancies

With 17,059 education-sector posts included in the exercise, the recruitment drive represents a significant component of Uttar Pradesh’s broader government hiring plan.

The initiative is intended to expand employment opportunities for young people while filling vacancies across the state’s education system. For aspirants, the coming months will be important, with multiple recruitment examinations scheduled across different categories of teaching and academic posts.
