The application window runs April 27 to May 11, with August 2026 session start, requiring online submission, hard copy documents by May 20, and compliance with faculty, infrastructure, and technology norms.

The University Grants Commission has opened applications for higher educational institutions seeking recognition to offer programs through open and distance learning and online modes for the 26 to 27 academic year.
The commission said the academic session for these programs will begin in August 2026, with the online application window scheduled to open on April 27 and close on May 11, 2026.

Institutions seeking approval must submit their applications through the Distance Education Bureau portal at deb.ugc.ac.in.
According to the official notice, applications are being invited under Regulation 3(A) and Regulation 3(B)(b) of the UGC Open and Distance Learning Program and Online Programmes Regulations, 2020, along with subsequent amendments.
In addition to the online submission, applicants are required to send a hard copy of the application form along with the original affidavit and necessary annexures.
These documents must reach the office of the Joint Secretary, Distance Education Bureau, UGC, 35 Feroze Shah Road, New Delhi, 110001 by May 20, 2026.
The commission also stated that certain institutions already eligible to offer online or distance education programs can submit applications at any time during the year through the same DEB portal. However, it clarified that submission of an application does not ensure approval.
All applications will undergo detailed scrutiny before any decision is made. Institutions are expected to have qualified faculty, adequate infrastructure, relevant study materials, and appropriate technological support.
The UGC said approvals will be granted only to institutions that meet the prescribed standards as part of efforts to maintain quality in higher education.
Institutions have been advised to regularly check the DEB portal for updates, detailed guidelines, and information on the prescribed application fee.
