The redesigned books focus on stories, songs, interactive activities, and life skills, while schools across the state are scheduled to reopen after summer vacation on June 1.

Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Rajmohan on May 18 unveiled nine new textbooks developed under the revised curriculum for students in Classes 1 to 3, while also announcing that schools across the state will reopen on June 1 after the summer break.
According to an official release, the newly introduced textbooks have been designed to make learning simpler and more engaging for young students while helping them achieve expected learning outcomes and develop individual talents.

The revised books focus on a child-centered learning approach and include stories, songs, and interactive activities aimed at improving classroom participation and overall learning ability among children.
Officials said the textbooks also feature visually appealing color designs and content intended to support motor skills, socio-emotional development, values, and life skills alongside academic learning.
The state government said the curriculum changes were introduced to make early education more interactive and student-friendly.
The textbooks have been prepared to encourage understanding-based learning rather than rote memorization, with greater emphasis on creativity and skill development at the foundational stage.
The official release stated that the content was designed to help children learn “with ease and understanding,” while promoting the development of “unique individual talents.”
The announcement came after Rajmohan chaired a departmental review meeting regarding preparations for the upcoming academic session.
Following the meeting, the minister confirmed that all government, government-aided, and private schools in Tamil Nadu would reopen on June 1 after the summer vacation.
He also said textbooks had already been dispatched to districts across the state, and distribution would begin on the first day of reopening.
Rajmohan instructed officials to ensure that all welfare-related educational materials are distributed to students on the reopening day itself for the 2026-27 academic year.
These include free textbooks, notebooks, and school bags provided under various state government welfare schemes.
The state government has been focusing on curriculum modernization and foundational learning reforms as part of broader efforts to strengthen school education and improve learning outcomes in early grades.
