Telangana govt appoints additional collectors to oversee schools and hostels

A directive has been issued by the Telangana government, giving additional collectors (local bodies) the responsibility to oversee all government schools and hostels, including residential schools, gurukuls, and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs).

To guarantee the comprehensive growth of these institutions, the government announced a set of duties for Additional Collectors in a government order issued by Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari on Jan 1.

Several significant duties aimed at enhancing the operation of educational institutions in their districts are among the primary areas of supervision for additional collectors.

In order to promote a positive learning environment, they will be in charge of infrastructure management, making sure that dining facilities, dormitories, classrooms, and sanitary infrastructure are kept up to date.

Maintaining strong academic standards and making sure these institutions adhere to the directives from the appropriate departments will be Additional Collectors' top priorities.

According to the order, they will also serve as chairpersons of the District Purchase Committees, which are in charge of overseeing the purchasing of food and other necessities for the institutions.

During their inspections, the additional collectors will keep an eye on compliance with the recommended diet charts, guaranteeing the timely, adequate, and high-quality delivery of meals to students.

At least once every two weeks, they will spend the night at a school or hostel to guarantee face-to-face interaction with students and staff.

In order to assess infrastructure, safety, health standards, cleanliness, and general functioning, the additional collectors will also perform both routine and surprise inspections.

If problems are found, they are supposed to address them right away. Institutions in underserved, distant, and tribal areas will receive extra attention to guarantee fair resource distribution and high-quality instruction.

A grievance redressal system will be put in place to effectively handle staff, parent, and student concerns.

Additionally, the Additional Collectors will supervise budgetary distributions, guaranteeing openness and efficient use of funds.

For a variety of programs to be implemented smoothly, cooperation between the school education department and the welfare departments for SC/ST/BC and minority groups will be crucial.

Additional collectors will provide the district collector and relevant departments with thorough monthly reports that provide insights into institutional advancements and difficulties in order to uphold responsibility and monitor success.

With predetermined agendas and documented action points for accountability, the District Collectors will have monthly review meetings with Additional Collectors, institution heads, and other officials to evaluate academic performance, infrastructure state, and grievance resolution.

This will be done in accordance with the government officials.
