Teachers to get choice-based postings under new Bihar govt directive

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed the Education Department to ensure that government school teachers are assigned to their preferred or nearby blocks, aiming to improve satisfaction and stability in teacher postings across the state.

Posting from his official account on X, the Chief Minister said, "The task of postings of teachers within districts will be carried out by a committee of district officials so that, as far as possible, teachers are posted in their desired blocks or nearby areas."

Referring to concerns raised over recent teacher transfers, Kumar noted that feedback is being reviewed.

"Suggestions are being received from various sources regarding the recent teacher transfers conducted by the Education Department,” he said.

“In the process of reviewing this, I have given clear instructions to the Education Department that for teachers facing issues related to inter-district transfers, options for three districts will be obtained from them, after which their postings will be made in those districts only," he added.

He also appealed to teachers to remain focused on their duties.

"Teachers are very important for the future of children, and therefore, I humbly request that they work diligently for the education of children in Bihar without being anxious about this matter," Kumar said.

For years, teachers across Bihar have sought greater flexibility in transfers, with many calling for options that allow them to work closer to home.

The lack of subject-specific teachers in several districts has led to disruptions in classrooms and hampered student learning.

To address the issue, the Education Department recently introduced an online self-transfer system to streamline the posting process, improve transparency, and help fill long-pending vacancies in government schools.
