The six-month programme for the 2026-27 academic session will cover Karnataka Public Schools, PM SHRI institutions and selected bilingual-medium schools to improve students’ English communication skills.

The Karnataka government has introduced a special Spoken English programme in 1,919 selected government schools to strengthen students’ English-speaking abilities and help them communicate more confidently. The initiative, launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy for the 2026-27 academic session, will benefit students studying in Classes 1 to 10. The programme aims to address language hesitation among students and improve their proficiency in spoken English.
The selected institutions include Karnataka Public Schools (KPS), PM SHRI schools, their affiliated unit schools and designated bilingual-medium government schools across the state.

The programme will run for six months and focus on developing practical English communication skills among government school students. Rather than limiting English learning to classroom lessons and textbooks, the initiative seeks to encourage students to use the language more confidently.
According to the education department's announcement, the programme is intended to strengthen students' language proficiency and prepare them for better educational opportunities and a competitive global environment. The initiative also reflects the state's efforts to make English communication skills more accessible to students studying in government-run institutions.
Through the special classes, the Karnataka government aims to reduce students' hesitation in speaking English and provide them with opportunities to improve their communication abilities.
The programme covers students across different school levels, from primary to secondary classes, with the broader objective of strengthening language learning in public education institutions. The initiative is expected to support students in developing greater confidence in using English in academic and everyday communication.
