The Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) has released its 2025 rankings for top government sports universities in India, placing National Sports University, Imphal, Manipur, at the number one position. Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, Desar, Gujarat, is in second place, and Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, grabbed the third position.
National Sports University, Imphal, Manipur
Founded in 2018, National Sports University (NSU) has emerged as a premier destination for sports education in India. Located in Imphal, Manipur, NSU offers a dynamic range of programs, including B.Sc., M.Sc., M.A., B.P.Ed., and various certificate courses.
The university provides courses in both full-time and part-time formats across streams such as business and management studies and medicine and health sciences.

At number three in the government sports universities rankings is the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), located in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
LNIPE was established as a deemed university in 1995 and has consistently maintained its reputation as one of India’s leading institutions for physical education. It operates under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The institute offers full-time programs in various specializations, including MBA/PGDM, M.Sc., B.A., PG Diploma, and after-10th diploma courses. LNIPE also provides academic pathways for higher studies through undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and diploma programs.
