The Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) has released its 2025 rankings for top government sports universities in India, placing National Sports University, Imphal, Manipur, at the number one position. Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, Desar, Gujarat, is in second place, and Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, grabbed the third position.

Founded in 2018, National Sports University (NSU) has emerged as a premier destination for sports education in India. Located in Imphal, Manipur, NSU offers a dynamic range of programs, including B.Sc., M.Sc., M.A., B.P.Ed., and various certificate courses.
