Rajasthan flags over 3,000 government school buildings as dilapidated

Thousands of government school buildings across Rajasthan have been flagged as unsafe following a statewide assessment, with the state government initiating steps for repair and demolition, School Education Minister Madan Dilawar told the assembly.

Responding to a question from BJP MLA Sandeep Sharma during Question Hour, Dilawar said a district-level survey carried out through district collectors identified 3,768 government school buildings in dilapidated condition.

Of these, 2,558 buildings have already been officially declared dilapidated, while 1,210 are yet to receive formal classification. He said the demolition process for such structures is currently underway.

The survey was conducted in August 2025 after a portion of a government school building collapsed in Jhalawar district, killing seven children.

According to the findings, 41,178 of the state’s 45,365 government schools require major repair work.

Dilawar informed the House that under the 2025–26 state budget, ₹17,497.51 lakh has been approved for carrying out major repairs in 2,000 government schools.
