Bringing decades of academic leadership and digital innovation experience, Prof Gupta aims to usher in a forward-thinking era at IIM Lucknow, following his tenure at IIT Delhi.
Professor MP Gupta has been appointed as the new director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, succeeding Prof Archana Shukla.
A veteran in the fields of academia and administration, Prof Gupta transitions to IIM Lucknow from IIT Delhi, where he held the prestigious Modi Foundation Chair Professorship in the Department of Management Studies.
With a strong academic foundation—BTech from HBTU Kanpur, followed by MTech and PhD from IIT Delhi—Prof Gupta has spent decades influencing the landscape of management education in India.
His teaching journey began at IIT Roorkee before moving to IIT Delhi in 1997, where he became a full professor in 2008.
He also held key leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Management Studies (2016–19) and Dean (Planning).
In 2020, he was instrumental in launching the School of Management & Entrepreneurship at IIT Jodhpur.
Known for his pioneering contributions in e-governance and digital transformation, Prof Gupta has published more than 260 research papers, guided 38 PhD scholars, and authored several books.
According to a press release from IIM Lucknow, “His research works have directly contributed to national initiatives such as the Digital India and Smart City programs.”
Beyond academia, Prof Gupta has had a strong presence in public policy, serving on numerous government committees and national ICT award juries.
Internationally, he led an EU-funded project that introduced the FIWARE platform to India, which is now part of World Bank–backed smart city projects.
A recipient of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellowship and the Best Professor Award from the World Education Congress, Prof Gupta brings with him a clear and future-ready vision.
IIM Lucknow is poised to enter a new chapter of innovation and academic leadership under his guidance.
