The UGC-NET-2024 exam was conducted on June 18 in two shifts in over 317 cities. However, the exam was canceled just a day later on June 19, with the government saying that the "integrity of the examination may have been compromised".
After canceling the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) exam a day after conducting it, the National Testing Agency has announced fresh dates according to which the exam will now be held between August 21 and September 4.
However, the exam will now be held as a computer-based test rather than the usual pen-and-paper format (offline mode).
The UGC-NET-2024 exam was conducted on June 18 in two shifts in over 317 cities. However, the exam was canceled just a day later on June 19, with the government saying that the "integrity of the examination may have been compromised". Over 9 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam.
A CBI investigation revealed the paper was leaked on June 16, just two days before the exam over the darknet and other encrypted social media channels and was sold for more than 5 lakh rupees.
Along with the dates for the UGC-NET 2024, the NTA has also announced the new schedule for the Joint Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (CSIR-UGC NET)and National Common Entrance Test (NCET) dates.
Earlier, the CSIR-UGC NET 2024 exam was scheduled to be held from June 25 to June 27, but the Ministry of Education asked the NTA to postpone it due to concerns that the paper may have been leaked on the dark web.
The NCET 2024 exam will be held on July 10, while the Joint CSIR UGC NET will be conducted from July 25 to 27.
The UGC-NET and CSIR-NET exams are crucial for candidates seeking lectureships, research fellowships and enrolment in PhD programs in Indian universities and research institutions.
UGC-NET exam is conducted twice a year – in June and December. The NTA has also announced the All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET) 2024 which will be conducted on July 6, as scheduled earlier.
