The commission has shared a state- and union-territory-wise CRMI seat matrix and asked authorities to review the data and report any discrepancies before allocating internship slots.

The National Medical Commission has asked State Medical Councils across the country to start allocating Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship slots to eligible Foreign Medical Graduates for the 2026-27 academic year.
In a notice issued on March 10, NMC Secretary Dr Raghav Langer informed registrars of all State Medical Councils that the Undergraduate Medical Education Board has issued detailed guidelines along with information on the availability of internship seats.

According to the communication, the Under-Graduate Medical Education Board has shared a state and union territory-wise seat matrix that specifies the total number of CRMI seats available as well as the institution-wise distribution of internship slots in medical colleges that can be earmarked for foreign medical graduates.
These internship positions will be used to accommodate foreign medical graduates who have cleared the required screening examination and are eligible to undertake internship training in India.
The commission has directed State Medical Councils to begin the process of allotting the available internship seats to eligible candidates based on the seat matrix already circulated.
"All State Medical Councils are requested to initiate and undertake the process of allotment of the available internship slots to eligible Foreign Medical Graduates and to flag discrepancy, if any," the commission said.
Authorities have also been asked to carefully review the seat matrix and report any discrepancies if found.
The Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship is a mandatory requirement for foreign medical graduates seeking registration to practice medicine in India after completing their medical education abroad.
