Petitioner claimed three NEET-UG questions were flawed and sought expert review, but the Supreme Court directed the matter to the high court without closing legal options.
The Supreme Court on Aug 1 declined to hear a petition that challenged three questions from the NEET-UG 2025 examination, citing alleged "serious errors" affecting the petitioner’s score.
A bench comprising Justices P S Narasimha and A S Chandurkar advised the petitioner’s counsel to approach the relevant high court instead.
The court clarified it did not wish to shut down any legal avenues. "You withdraw this and go to the high court," the bench said. "We don't want to close your remedy."
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate courses (NEET-UG) is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related programs in both government and private colleges across India.
“These (three) questions were absolutely wrong. I have taken two expert opinions, and those experts also concur with my views. They have certified my views,” the petitioner’s counsel argued, claiming that the disputed questions led to a 13-mark loss.
The counsel also requested the apex court to appoint an expert panel to review the three questions and deliver an opinion within three days, after which the court could decide whether further action was warranted.
However, the bench showed no interest in taking up the matter, and the counsel eventually withdrew the plea.
Earlier, on July 4, the Supreme Court had refused to entertain a separate petition that sought cancellation of the NEET-UG 2025 results over an alleged error in one of the questions.
