A man seen being slapped

A man seen being slapped by a co-passenger during a panic attack aboard an IndiGo flight has gone missing, triggering deep concern among his family in Assam’s Cachar district.

The man, identified as 32-year-old Hussain Ahmed Majumdar, was en route from Mumbai to Silchar via Kolkata on IndiGo Flight 6E-2387 on July 31 when he reportedly suffered a mid-air panic attack. A video that has since gone viral shows Hussain being assisted by two cabin crew members before a fellow passenger suddenly slaps him — a move that drew outrage from other fliers.

According to the video, while crew members urged the attacker to stop, another passenger protested the violence. Upon landing in Kolkata, the assaulter was detained by CISF personnel, IndiGo later confirmed in a statement.

But as the airline handled the unruly passenger, Hussain never made it to his final destination. His family, unaware of the incident at the time, waited at the Silchar airport to receive him on August 1 morning — only to return without answers.

Later that day, they recognized him in the viral footage and began making frantic calls, only to find his phone switched off. Hussain’s father, Abdul Mannan Majumdar, said the family has filed a missing person’s complaint at Udharbond Police Station and also alerted CISF officials stationed at the airport.

“This is not the first time he flew home on this route. He works in a hotel in Mumbai and has travelled the same way before,” said Abdul Mannan, urging authorities and the airline to assist in locating his son.

IndiGo, in a social media post, acknowledged the assault and confirmed that the attacker had been handed over to security forces at Kolkata airport. The airline added that it had informed regulatory agencies, but made no mention of Hussain’s condition, location, or subsequent travel.

As uncertainty deepens, the Majumdar family says they have received no response or support from either the airline or airport authorities, raising troubling questions about Hussain’s safety — and accountability in the aftermath of an incident caught on camera.
