MSDE, Google Cloud, and CCSU launch AI-enabled university pilot in India

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in partnership with Google Cloud and Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), Meerut, has launched a pilot initiative to modernize India’s vocational and higher education ecosystem using advanced AI and Cloud technologies.

Unveiled at Google’s AI for Learning Forum in Delhi, the program was attended by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for MSDE and MoE, Smt Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, MSDE, and senior officials from both ministries.

The initiative positions CCSU as a national pilot to demonstrate how AI can transform education and vocational training across India.

Through the Gemini Enterprise platform, CCSU will deploy AI solutions to enhance student learning and administrative efficiency.

Personalized AI tutors, AI-driven skill-gap analysis, and intelligent automation will support students, faculty, and staff, while Placecom will oversee the technical and operational implementation of the platform.

Shri Jayant Chaudhary said, “To realize the vision of a Viksit Bharat, we must empower our entire educational ecosystem with digital tools and AI—from the students in the classroom to the educators leading them. This collaboration with Google Cloud and Chaudhary Charan Singh University is a step toward bridging the digital divide.”

“By establishing this AI-Enabled University pilot, we are aiming to create a framework that will allow thousands of institutions to independently elevate their standards. When we equip our teachers with world-class AI tools and our colleges with smarter operational frameworks, we help in preparing students, regardless of geography, to be ready to lead in the AI era," Chaudhary added.

He continued, “Ultimately, we are working to modernize education so that a student’s success is defined by their talent and drive, ensuring they graduate not just with a degree, but with the high-demand skills to thrive in the workforce.”

Preeti Lobana, Country Manager and VP, Google India, said, “Google is deeply committed to supporting India’s vision of becoming a global AI hub. Through this collaboration, CCSU will leverage Google Cloud and Gemini to create learning solutions from personalized learning to AI-driven career support.”

By supporting CCSU’s evolution into an AI-first institution, we are aiming to pilot a framework for modernising India’s education and skill development. We are excited to work with MSDE and CCSU to demonstrate how technology can help unlock human potential at scale, with the goal of ensuring that every student, regardless of geography, gains access to world-class learning tools,” Lobana added.

The collaboration focuses on three key areas:

  • Democratizing access for students: Personalized AI tutors and skill-gap analysis will guide students toward career-relevant learning, while Gemini’s multilingual capabilities will make AI tools accessible to regional youth in their native languages.
  • Empowering teachers: Faculty will use AI to design curriculum, interactive simulations, and multilingual teaching aids, enabling students to learn industry-relevant skills at their own pace and enhancing the quality of instruction.
  • Improving administrative efficiency: Intelligent automation and document processing will streamline university operations, reducing administrative workload and supporting institutional efficiency.

The initiative aims to extend the benefits of AI in higher education beyond premier institutes and urban centers. Insights from CCSU’s pilot will help MSDE develop a National Best Practice Framework for over 50,000 colleges and 1,200 universities, guiding the implementation of AI and enabling institutions to self-certify as “AI-enabled Universities.”

As a Center of Excellence, CCSU will also host knowledge-sharing sessions for MSDE’s network, demonstrating how AI integration can modernize thousands of colleges while fostering student development and workforce readiness.
