The initiative aims to expand high quality higher education options by bringing global curricula, faculty oversight, and industry linked learning to Indian cities.

Global edtech firm Eruditus has announced strategic partnerships with seven leading global universities to support the launch of their India campuses across Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Gurugram, marking a significant expansion of international higher education offerings within the country.
Under the partnerships, Eruditus will work with each university to establish and manage on-the-ground campus operations in India as part of their global campus networks.

The institutions will offer the same degree programs, academic standards, and assessment frameworks followed at their home campuses.
The move comes amid rising demand for globally aligned education options within India. Each year, about 11 million students complete Grade 12, with nearly 1.7 million ranking in the top 15%.
However, only around 200,000 secure admission to India’s most selective institutions, leaving a large pool of high performing students seeking stronger academic alternatives.
At the same time, overseas education has become costlier and less predictable due to rising expenses and geopolitical uncertainty.
The India campuses aim to address this gap by allowing students to earn internationally recognized degrees while studying domestically and building academic and professional networks in India.
The expansion is also enabled by policy reforms under the National Education Policy 2020 and the University Grants Commission’s 2023 framework, which allow foreign universities to establish campuses in India.
According to Ministry of External Affairs data, more than 1.2 million Indian students are currently enrolled in higher education abroad, highlighting the potential impact of expanding global education options within the country.
The partner universities and proposed campuses include Illinois Institute of Technology in Mumbai, University of Aberdeen in Mumbai, University of Bristol in Mumbai, University of Liverpool in Bengaluru, University of New South Wales with registrations open, University of Victoria in Delhi NCR with a Gurugram campus, and University of York in Mumbai. Applications have opened for several of these campuses.
The new campuses are expected to begin operations from August or September 2026, with student intake and academic programs rolled out in phases.
Initial offerings will include programs in business management, economics, computer science, artificial intelligence, game design, data science, biomedical sciences, MBA, accounting and finance, information technology, immersive arts, and financial technology, with more programs planned over time.
Academic delivery, teaching, and research engagement will follow the partner universities’ global faculty models and governance standards, with an emphasis on applied learning, industry collaboration, research development, and career outcomes.
Commenting on the announcement, Ashwin Damera, Co founder and CEO of Eruditus, said, “Global student mobility is structurally shifting. Rising costs and policy barriers are keeping more Indian students at home, even as demand and opportunities for high-quality education in India grows.”
“For Eruditus, partnering with global universities is a long-term nation-building effort—strengthening India’s innovation ecosystem by enabling students to study, research, and commercialize technology at home while serving the global ecosystem. These partnerships go beyond teaching, driving research, industry collaboration, and real upward social mobility,” Damera added.
Eruditus said it will draw on its experience in program design, enrollment management, academic support, and institutional partnerships to help universities scale campus-based education in India while maintaining global academic standards.
Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Gurugram were selected for their strong academic ecosystems, proximity to industry clusters, and capacity to support research collaboration and career linked learning.
The campuses are expected to cater to high achieving students facing limited domestic options as well as working professionals seeking globally relevant education without leaving India.
