Four days after she was reported missing, the body of Vanshika, an Indian student residing in Ottawa, was discovered, the Indian High Commission in Canada confirmed on April 29. Her death has prompted an active investigation by local law enforcement.
The 25-year-old student was last seen on the evening of April 25, when she left her residence between 8 and 9 PM to search for a rental room.
A missing person alert was posted by the Ottawa Indo-Canadians Association (OICA) on April 27, noting that her phone had been switched off and she had missed a critical exam — something described as highly uncharacteristic.
Her disappearance triggered a widespread search effort involving local authorities and the Indian diplomatic mission. On April 28, the Indian Embassy stated it was in close contact with both community organizations and Canadian officials.
The grim update came on April 29 through a post on X.
“We are deeply saddened to be informed of the death of Ms. Vanshika, student from India in Ottawa. The matter has been taken up with concerned authorities and the cause is under investigation as per local police,” the High Commission posted.
As the investigation unfolds, the Indian community in Canada remains in shock, awaiting answers on what led to Vanshika’s untimely death.
