The Sugamya Bharat App has been redesigned with enhanced AI capabilities and a user-friendly interface to boost accessibility assistance for individuals with disabilities (Divyangjan) and older adults
What is it?
The Sugamya Bharat App is a community-driven mobile application that enables users to notify about obstacles related to accessibility in public facilities, transportation, and ICT infrastructures.
Inaugurated by: Department of Empowerment for Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), part of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Inaugurated in: 2021, as a component of the wider Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan).
Main Goal: To allow citizens to report accessibility issues, encourage inclusive infrastructure, and enhance citizen involvement (Jan-Bhagidari) in creating a barrier-free India.
Main Aspects of the Overhauled Application:
Accessible Design: Easy navigation and a streamlined user experience for individuals with disabilities and the elderly.
Chatbot Fueled by AI: Provides immediate assistance and up-to-date details on different government programs and initiatives for Divyangjan.
Immediate Circulars and Notifications: Information on recent policies, accessibility initiatives, and DEPwD announcements.
System for Addressing Complaints:
Residents can submit geo-tagged images to highlight inaccessible infrastructure.
Of the 2,705 total complaints, 1,897 have been addressed by June 2025.
