‘Kaanta Laga’ star Shefali Jariwala dies at 42, sudden demise stuns bollywood

The actor-model best known for her breakout in the early 2000s hit music video was found unresponsive at her Mumbai residence, cause of death remains unknown as tributes pour in from industry peers.

Actor and model Shefali Jariwala, widely remembered as the face of the chartbuster Kaanta Laga, passed away in Mumbai on June 27 at the age of 42, leaving the entertainment industry in shock.

Jariwala was reportedly found unconscious at her Andheri residence and rushed to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital by her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, and three others. Doctors declared her brought dead. The exact cause of death remains unconfirmed. Mumbai Police, who were informed around 1 AM, have sent the body for postmortem at Cooper Hospital.

"Her body was recovered from her home in Andheri. We were alerted during the night and an investigation is underway. The cause of death will be ascertained after the autopsy report,” said a senior Mumbai police official.

Jariwala shot to fame in 2002 with Kaanta Laga, a remix that became a pop culture phenomenon. Her bold, electrifying screen presence earned her instant stardom and the moniker Kaanta Laga Girl. She later appeared in films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi alongside Salman Khan and participated in Bigg Boss 13, where her presence once again captivated audiences.

In 2004, she married Harmeet Singh of the Meet Brothers duo, before parting ways in 2009. She tied the knot with actor Parag Tyagi in 2015.

The news of her untimely death sparked an outpouring of grief from fans and celebrities alike. Singer Mika Singh wrote on X: “I’m deeply shocked, saddened, and feeling a heavy heart… Our beloved star and my dearest friend @shefalijariwala has left us. You will always be remembered for your grace, smile, and spirit. Om Shanti.”

Actor Divyanka Tripathi called it "unbelievable," while former Bigg Boss co-contestant Tehseen Poonawalla reflected, “Absolutely stunned to hear my friend Shefali Jariwala is no more… Life is so short. Incredible how #SidharthShukla and now she, from my season, are no more.”

From her dazzling debut to her resilience in the spotlight, Jariwala’s sudden passing marks another heartbreaking farewell for the Hindi entertainment world — one that fans and friends alike are struggling to come to terms with.
