The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) provides students with up to three opportunities to improve their SSLC scores, with the best result from the first, second, or third attempt considered for the final marks.
The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has announced that Class 10 students with less than 75% attendance will be barred from the second and third SSLC exams this year.
A circular instructs schools to readmit such students for the 2025-26 academic year.
The KSEAB permitted students with less than 75% attendance to take the second and third examinations during the March/April 2024 SSLC exam.
"As there is a provision for re-admission, we have decided not to allow them even for the second and third exams if their attendance is less than 75%," said a senior official of the KSEAB.
During the 2024 SSLC exams, there were over 15,000 students with a shortage of attendance.
"Considering the number of students and following the government's directions, we provided them an opportunity to register as private candidates for the second and third exams if they were above 15 years of age.
As a result, over 8,000 students registered, and around 2,000 passed," the official added.
KSEAB officials emphasized that all three exams are equally important, with the best score taken for the final result.
A senior official questioned why students with low attendance should be allowed to take the second and third exams.
The board's circular instructs schools not to upload internal assessment scores for students with less than 75% attendance, calculated until the day before the first exam.
Information for these students will be frozen, and admit cards won’t be issued. SSLC exams are set for March 21 to April 4.
The "2nd exam" and "3rd exam" refer to the second and third annual examinations that students can take, essentially providing them with three opportunities to improve their scores, with the best score among the three being considered for the final result.
