Italy mandates separate fingerprint appointments for Indian Type D visa applicants from January 2025, aiming to streamline processing and improve security.
Indian applicants for a type D visa, that allows long-term stays, will need to make separate appointments for fingerprints at Italian consulates starting January 10, 2025.
The "type D" visa category also includes the study visa. Undergraduate and graduate students who want to study or conduct research in Italy for longer than 90 days may apply for this visa option.
There were 5,196 Indian students in Italy on study visas in 2023 and 6,017 in 2024, according to government data. India had 4791 students in Italy in 2019, 3211 in 2020, and 3008 in 2021.
This comes a year after the Italian government announced that Indian students would now be able to stay in Italy for an additional 12 months after receiving their degrees.
According to the agreement, Indian students may be allowed to temporarily remain in Italy for a maximum of 12 months after completing academic or vocational studies there in order to gain some basic professional experience.
Previously, after completing their studies, those with a master's or doctoral degree may remain in Italy for a year.
