IIT Madras collaborates with major industry leaders to provide career-oriented programs on ‘SWAYAM Plus’ across India.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has taken an important step towards enhancing employability by partnering with major industry players.

Through the groundbreaking initiative called 'SWAYAM Plus,' IIT Madras aims to provide career-oriented programs accessible to learners across India.

IIT Madras has signed 24 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading industry partners from various sectors.

These partnerships will offer skill-focused online programs and internships, ensuring that learners nationwide have access to quality education.

The Ministry of Education and IIT Madras jointly launched SWAYAM Plus on February 27th, 2024. Since its inception, over 75,000 learners have benefited from more than 165 courses.

Notably, 33 of these courses align with the National Credit Framework, covering sectors such as IT, Healthcare, BFSI, and Indian Knowledge Systems.

The MoUs cover a wide range of fields, including Information Technology, Social Sciences, Banking and Finance, Soft Skills, Music, Management, Food Science, and Indian Knowledge Systems. Internships are also part of the initiative, ensuring comprehensive skill development for future employability.

Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, emphasized the mission of democratizing education. SWAYAM Plus plays a crucial role in increasing the adoption of industry content among universities, empowering learners across India.

SWAYAM Plus offers programs in sectors such as Manufacturing, Energy, Computer Science, Engineering/IT/ITES, Management Studies, Teacher Education, Healthcare, Hospitality and Tourism, Social Science, Indian Knowledge Systems, and Media and Communications.

Professor R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning) at IIT Madras, expressed excitement about forging strategic alliances with industry leaders. SWAYAM Plus aims to reach learners nationwide, providing diverse and high-quality multilingual content, internships, and potential job opportunities—all at an affordable cost.

IIT Madras remains committed to preparing learners for the evolving job market, ensuring that education is accessible, relevant, and impactful.
