The fully online postgraduate courses in AI, energy, infrastructure, and smart power systems are aimed at working professionals and graduates seeking flexible technical education opportunities.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has expanded its online postgraduate education portfolio by introducing four new MTech programs for the 2026 academic session under its outreach-based higher education initiatives.
The newly announced programs include MTech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Construction Engineering and Project Management, Smart Grid, and Sustainable Energy Technologies.

IIT Kanpur said the courses have been developed to address growing industry demand in sectors such as intelligent systems, infrastructure development, renewable energy, and advanced power management.
According to the institute, all four programs will be offered entirely in online mode and have received approval from the IIT Kanpur Senate.
The courses can be completed over a flexible duration ranging from two to four years, allowing students to balance academic study with professional responsibilities.
IIT Kanpur said the programs are specifically designed for both working professionals and fresh graduates seeking advanced technical education without attending conventional on-campus classes.
The institute is offering the courses through its Office of Outreach Activities as part of efforts to widen access to postgraduate engineering education across the country.
The MTech program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will concentrate on AI-driven applications, intelligent systems, and data-oriented technologies increasingly being adopted across industries.
The Smart Grid course will cover modern electricity distribution systems, digital energy management, and advanced power network technologies.
Meanwhile, the Sustainable Energy Technologies program will focus on renewable energy systems and environmentally sustainable engineering practices.
The Construction Engineering and Project Management course has been designed around infrastructure planning, execution strategies, and project management frameworks used in large-scale development projects.
The institute said the curriculum for all four programs has been aligned with current national and international industry requirements.
Eligibility and Admission Process
Applicants seeking admission must have secured a minimum CPI of 5.5 or at least 55% marks in their qualifying degree examination.
The selection process will involve a two-stage evaluation that includes an online entrance examination conducted by IIT Kanpur, followed by a department-level online assessment or interview.
The institute stated that candidates with valid GATE scores meeting departmental cutoff requirements may be exempted from the entrance test.
Additionally, applicants with a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience may also qualify for exemption depending on departmental guidelines.
IIT Kanpur added that candidates sponsored by government departments, defense organizations, or recognized institutions could also be considered for exemptions under specified criteria.
Admissions Open for Second Cycle
Admissions for the second cycle of IIT Kanpur’s online postgraduate programs are currently underway, with classes for the newly introduced MTech courses scheduled to commence in September 2026.
The institute has advised prospective applicants to refer to its official online programs portal for complete details related to eligibility, admission schedules, and course structures.
