The curriculum combines chemical engineering with artificial intelligence, data science, and computational modeling, with training in process optimization, molecular modeling, simulation tools, and industry applications in energy, chemicals, and manufacturing sectors.

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad is expanding its postgraduate offerings in chemical engineering with the launch of two new MTech programs that focus on artificial intelligence and computational technologies.
The programs, introduced by the Department of Chemical Engineering, are MTech in AI and ML in Chemical Engineering and MTech in Computational Chemical Engineering.

The institute said the courses are designed to prepare engineering graduates for evolving roles in process industries by combining traditional chemical engineering knowledge with expertise in artificial intelligence, data science, and computational modeling.
According to the institute, the MTech in AI and ML in Chemical Engineering program is the first such course in India. It integrates core chemical engineering concepts with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven modeling.
The curriculum will train students to apply advanced algorithms and analytics to areas such as process optimization, materials discovery, reaction engineering, smart manufacturing, and sustainable energy systems.
The institute said the program aims to help students develop analytical and computational capabilities that can be used to manage complex industrial processes, particularly in technology-focused manufacturing and energy sectors.
The MTech in Computational Chemical Engineering program will focus on simulation and modeling techniques used to study chemical processes at multiple scales.
Its curriculum brings together chemical engineering, mathematics, and computing and includes subjects such as computational thermodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, molecular modeling, reaction modeling, and numerical optimization.
The institute said the program will place strong emphasis on simulation-based learning and the use of advanced computational tools in engineering analysis.
Both programs will include research components, hands-on computational training, and opportunities for engagement with industry.
IIT Hyderabad said graduates from these courses are expected to find roles in sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, energy, advanced materials, and digital manufacturing.
The institute said the new programs reflect the increasing role of artificial intelligence and computational methods in chemical and process engineering, especially in areas related to modeling, optimization, and data-driven industrial operations.
