The revised eligibility allows candidates with a 3-year undergraduate degree and valid CAT score to apply, aiming to improve classroom diversity and align with national B-school norms.
IIT Bombay has updated the eligibility criteria for its MBA program for the 2025–26 academic year, allowing candidates with a three-year bachelor's degree to apply.
Earlier, applicants were required to have a four-year undergraduate degree or a master’s degree, along with at least 60% marks or a CPI of 6.5 out of 10.
The revised policy now includes graduates from three-year degree programs in any discipline, provided they meet the same academic benchmarks.
The Shailesh J Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM), which offers the MBA at IIT Bombay, said that the change is intended to open up the program to a broader range of academic backgrounds.
Candidates applying to the 2025–27 batch must hold a bachelor’s degree (three-year or four-year) from a recognized institution with a minimum of 60% marks or a CPI of 6.5.
For applicants from SC, ST, or PwD categories, the minimum requirement is 55% marks or a CPI of 6.0.
Final-year students awaiting results are also eligible if their current academic performance meets these criteria. A valid CAT score is mandatory for all candidates.
“The case method used in management teaching thrives on contributions from students with different educational and professional experiences,” the institute said.
The revised criteria are expected to enrich classroom learning and bring in diverse perspectives, which are essential for solving complex business problems.
The decision also responds to feedback from recruiters who have emphasized the need for more inclusive hiring and training environments.
This move brings IIT Bombay in line with other top institutes like the IIMs and several IITs that already accept candidates with three-year undergraduate degrees.
