The university has added diverse degree and diploma programs covering philosophy, disaster management, agriculture, and home science, combining traditional knowledge with skill-oriented learning in line with the National Education Policy 2020.

IGNOU has introduced a range of new academic programs, including a Master of Arts in the Bhagavad Gita, aimed at combining traditional knowledge with modern applications in leadership, ethics, and decision-making.
The two-year MA in Bhagavad Gita will offer a detailed study of the text’s philosophical, cultural, and ethical teachings, drawing connections to contemporary challenges such as environmental concerns, conflict resolution, and socio-political issues.

Students will also explore Vedanta, the Upanishads, and scientific interpretations of the Gita.
“The program is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of Indian philosophical and cultural insights,” the university said.
The launch complements IGNOU’s existing MA in Vedic Studies, which focuses on the Vedas, Vedangas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas, Upanishads, and Vedic science, mathematics, and art.
Alongside the Gita program, IGNOU has rolled out other specialized courses.
A postgraduate diploma in Disaster Management will train students in prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and recovery from natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
A Diploma in Agricultural Cost Management, offered in collaboration with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), will focus on sustainable farming, yield improvement, and agribusiness skills.
The course aims to boost farmer livelihoods and promote entrepreneurship in the agriculture sector.
The new Bachelor of Arts in Home Science will cover human development, family studies, nutrition, resource management, fabric and apparel sciences, and extension education, combining theoretical knowledge with practical training to meet growing industry demand.
