IIT Roorkee’s waste-to-energy technology enables industries to convert organic liquid waste into hydrogen-rich gas, promoting cleaner energy production, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting India’s renewable energy and circular economy goals.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has handed over its new waste-to-energy technology to Infinate Integrated Energy Technologies LLP, marking a significant step in converting organic liquid waste into hydrogen-rich gas for cleaner energy production.
The move demonstrates IIT Roorkee’s commitment to translating laboratory research into practical industrial applications.

Developed by Prof Narapureddy Siva Mohan Reddy, the technology uses a continuous catalytic hydrothermal gasification process to transform organic liquid waste into hydrogen-rich gas.
Designed for scalability, it is intended for industries producing organic effluents, offering a sustainable alternative for waste management and hydrogen recovery.
The system also has the potential to reduce carbon emissions and supports India’s efforts toward renewable energy and a circular economy.
Industries generating organic liquid waste can now convert it into hydrogen fuel, turning environmental burdens into energy resources.
Infinate Integrated Energy Technologies LLP will oversee the industrial deployment of the system in commercial settings.

Professor KK Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, said, “At IIT Roorkee, we believe in advancing technologies that create real-world impact. This waste-to-hydrogen innovation exemplifies how our research contributes to solving critical challenges in clean energy and waste management.”
Ramchandra Raju Dantuluri, CEO of Infinate Integrated Energy Technologies LLP, added, “We are excited to collaborate with IIT Roorkee on this transformative waste-to-hydrogen technology. We aim to take this innovation from the laboratory to industry, helping India move closer to a hydrogen-based economy.”
The partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of efficient waste-to-energy solutions in India, promoting cleaner industrial practices and advancing the country’s hydrogen economy.
