Final-year students now eligible for PM Internship Scheme, says govt

Final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students can now apply for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme after the Ministry of Corporate Affairs broadened its eligibility criteria during the pilot phase, the government said.

The revision is intended to strengthen employability and prepare students for industry roles by allowing those in their final year to take up paid internships across sectors.

Candidates must still meet the existing eligibility requirements and provide a no-objection certificate from their institution, confirming that participation will not disrupt academic commitments.

The certificate can be issued by authorized officials such as heads of departments, deans, principals, or training and placement officers.

According to the ministry, the expansion supports the objectives of the National Education Policy, which highlights experiential learning and industry exposure as essential elements of higher education.

The program aims to close the gap between academic training and workplace expectations by offering practical experience, skill development, and exposure to professional settings.

Interns receive a minimum monthly financial assistance of ₹9,000 under the scheme. More than 300 companies have taken part in the pilot phase, providing internship opportunities across various sectors.

The scheme is open to Indian citizens between 18 and 25 years of age, and applications can be submitted through the official portal.
