Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy shrugs off mixed reviews, sustains weekday momentum and eyes bigger box office milestones.

Bhoot Bangla is defying early skepticism with a steady and spirited run at the box office, crossing the ₹100 crore mark in India gross within six days and amassing ₹127.37 crore worldwide. The Akshay Kumar-led horror-comedy, directed by Priyadarshan, continues to draw audiences despite mixed critical reception.
According to trade figures, the film collected ₹6.80 crore nett on April 22, pushing its domestic total to ₹89.45 crore. With strong footfall trends through the week, the film’s India gross has already surged past ₹100 crore, signaling resilience at the ticket window.

Also starring Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film is outperforming expectations and even edging ahead of Kumar’s recent release Jolly LLB 3 in weekday earnings. While the courtroom drama earned ₹5.5 crore and ₹6.5 crore on its first Monday and Tuesday, Bhoot Bangla posted stronger figures of ₹6.75 crore and ₹8 crore on corresponding days.
The film’s consistent run offers a much-needed boost to Kumar, who has faced a string of underperformers in recent years. If current trends hold, Bhoot Bangla is poised to surpass the worldwide collections of Kesari Chapter 2 (₹145.01 crore) and Sky Force (₹150.01 crore). The bigger test, however, lies in overtaking higher benchmarks set by Jolly LLB (₹171.64 crore) and Housefull 5 (₹288.67 crore).
Trade chatter suggests the film is maintaining a “steady and strong performance” through the week, with expectations of a weekend surge likely to push numbers higher. Occupancy trends indicate gradual improvement through the day—a typical weekday pattern—with evening and night shows expected to drive collections further.
Mounted on a large scale and backed by Balaji Telefilms Ltd and Cape of Good Films, the film also features Paresh Rawal, Jisshu Sengupta and Rajpal Yadav in key roles.
Audience sentiment appears to be tilting in the film’s favour. Social media reactions highlight its blend of comedy and horror, with viewers praising its “fun factor” and calling it a family-friendly entertainer. Many have credited the film’s balanced tone and ensemble cast for keeping theatres buzzing midweek.
With momentum intact and word-of-mouth building, Bhoot Bangla is shaping up as a box office contender that could continue its upward trajectory in the days ahead.
