Medhavi Skills University (MSU) and the Tripura government have signed an MoU to establish Centres of Excellence in AI and Oil & Gas, along with a Skills University. This initiative, announced at the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2025, aims to equip youth with future-ready skills, boost employment, and drive economic growth in the region.
Medhavi Skills University (MSU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Higher education, Government of Tripura, to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Artificial Intelligence, a CoE in Oil & Gas, and a Skills University in Tripura. This momentous agreement was exchanged in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Honourable Chief Minister of Tripura, Industry Minister, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Industries), Director General of Police (DGP), Principal Secretary (Forest) and other senior government officials. With Tripura making significant progress towards creating a conducive environment for investors, the establishment of these Centres of Excellence and the Skills University marks a crucial step in further accelerating economic growth in the region. The collaboration aims to equip the local youth with future-ready skills and open new avenues for employment and entrepreneurship.
The CoE in Artificial Intelligence will play a pivotal role in training and skilling young professionals in cutting-edge AI technologies, ensuring they remain competitive in the digital economy. Aiming to bridge the digital divide and promoting inclusive AI penetration in Northeast India, this initiative is crucial for empowering local communities with emerging technologies and fostering equitable socio-economic growth. Additionally, the launch of a Skills University in Tripura will further bolster the state's education ecosystem, offering industry-aligned programs tailored to current and future job market demands. As per a recent ServiceNow report, India's workforce will expand by 33.9 million with AI creating 2.73 million tech roles by 2028, highlighting the urgent need for AI-driven skill development initiatives across India.
Furthermore, MSU and Government of Tripura, will together launch a CoE in Oil & Gas to provide specialized training and skill development in this crucial sector, preparing a workforce capable of contributing to India’s growing energy needs. With Tripura’s strategic location and its potential for hydrocarbon exploration, this initiative is expected to generate employment, enhance technical capabilities, and contribute to the region’s economic self-sufficiency.
This partnership will play a transformative role in skilling the youth of Tripura with industry-aligned higher education, promoting industry-academia collaborations to create job opportunities for inclusive growth.
