The Delhi University (DU) will now use both Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores and Class 12 board exam marks to take the admissions. Apart from CUET, the DU will use Class 12 board exam marks to fill any remaining vacant seats.
In accordance with UGC guidelines for filling vacant seats, CUET scores will remain the primary criteria for admission. However, students who took the CUET but did not apply to specific universities for certain programs may still be considered.
The Delhi University (DU) will now use both Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores and Class 12 board exam marks to take the admissions. Apart from CUET, the DU will use Class 12 board exam marks to fill any remaining vacant seats.
This decision was announced by Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, following the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive on Aug 1, which permitted central universities to conduct their own exams to ensure all seats are filled.
Vice-Chancellor Singh confirmed that DU will not hold another exam to address vacant seats, saying, “We will ensure that all seats in this academic year are filled.”
According to the data shared by Delhi University, last year about 5,000 seats remained vacant after the admission rounds were over.
At present, DU is conducting admissions for 79 programs across 69 colleges. The second phase of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) UG process began on Aug 1.
CSAS UG includes three phases: Phase I involves application to the University of Delhi, Phase II focuses on preference selection for programs and colleges, and Phase III covers the allocation-cum-admission process.
In accordance with UGC guidelines for filling vacant seats, CUET scores will remain the primary criteria for admission. However, students who took the CUET but did not apply to specific universities for certain programs may still be considered.
The guidelines also allow universities to consider CUET candidates regardless of the subject papers they took, and institutions can relax domain-specific criteria for admissions into particular courses or programs.
