Delhi releases first shortlist for nursery, KG, and Class 1 admissions

Delhi has released the first shortlist for Nursery, KG, and Class 1 admissions for the 2026–27 academic year, kicking off a closely watched admission cycle across the capital.

The list applies to more than 1,700 private unaided schools and covers nearly 1.25 lakh applicants under the Directorate of Education’s points-based admission framework.

Parents can access the shortlist online to check their child’s admission status and review the points awarded under different eligibility criteria.

The Directorate of Education has also allowed families to flag discrepancies, if any, within a defined objection window.

The second shortlist is expected in early February, with the entire admission process scheduled to wrap up by March.

Under Delhi’s nursery admission policy, selections are made through a points system that assigns weightage to factors such as distance between home and school, siblings already studying in the institution, alumni status of parents, and specific staff- or community-related criteria.

The mechanism was introduced to improve transparency and reduce subjectivity in admissions.

To view the first list, parents can visit the official Directorate of Education website at edudel.nic.in and navigate to the Nursery, KG, or Admission 2026–27 section on the homepage.

Several schools have also uploaded the shortlisted names on their individual websites, allowing parents to verify details through multiple sources.

In cases where parents find errors in point calculations or selection status, objections can be submitted from Jan 24 to Feb 3, 2026.

The second admission list will be published on Feb 9, 2026, while the final deadline for completing admissions has been set for March 19, 2026.

Officials said district-level monitoring cells have been activated to supervise the process and ensure compliance with norms.

If two or more applicants secure the same number of points, the final selection will be decided through a draw of lots conducted in the presence of parents and recorded on video.
