Autonomous landing experiment marks a major milestone in cost-effective space access and strengthens India’s commercial space ambitions

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted a landing experiment of its Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV), demonstrating advanced autonomous landing capability. The test marks a significant technological achievement in India’s efforts to develop reusable space transportation systems.
The Reusable Launch Vehicle is designed to reduce the cost of satellite launches by enabling recovery and reuse of launch components, similar to global advancements in reusable rocket technology. During the experiment, the vehicle executed a precise and autonomous landing using advanced navigation, guidance, and control systems, showcasing India’s growing expertise in complex aerospace engineering.

Reusable launch systems are critical for lowering the overall cost of access to space, improving efficiency, and enhancing sustainability in space missions. By developing such capabilities, ISRO aims to strengthen India’s position in the global commercial launch market.
The successful test also supports India’s broader space sector reforms, which encourage greater private participation and innovation in the space ecosystem. Cost-effective and reliable launch services will boost India’s competitiveness in satellite deployment, space research, and commercial space services.
The achievement represents a major step forward in advancing India’s technological capabilities and reinforcing its status as an emerging global space power.
