Authority and Scope:

Examines accidents/major incidents related to:

Aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight exceeding 2,250 kg

Every turbojet airplane

Might examine smaller aircraft incidents if needed for public safety.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Examination & Sorting: Classifies aviation events into accidents, major incidents, and incidents.
  • Final Reports: Compiles public documents following DG’s consent; sent to ICAO and impacted States.
  • Safety Suggestions: Submitted to DGCA or international regulators for policy-level execution.
  • Safety Research: Examines systemic risks in aviation and suggests enduring reforms.
  • Legal Assistance: Aids courts and evaluators in accordance with Rule 12 of the 2017 Regulations.
