Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2025, was launched by the Union Jal Shakti

What Is It?

A countrywide survey ranking rural sanitation that includes 21,000 villages in 761 districts across 34 States/UTs.

Linked to Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Phase-II to evaluate the durability of ODF Plus results.

Organisation & Ministry: Carried out by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) within the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

A separate organization is employed for field validation, guaranteeing data accuracy and openness.

Main Goals:

To assess sanitation advancements in rural regions utilizing organized and technology-based approaches.

To enhance citizen involvement and recognize outstanding villages and states.

To encourage a citizen-driven initiative (Jan Bhagidari) for a clean and healthy India.

Survey Standards & Elements:

SSG 2025 evaluates rural areas using four performance-driven criteria:

Service-Level Progress (SLP): Derived from district self-evaluation and desktop verification of ODF Plus Model Verified Villages.

Direct Observation of Village Sanitation Conditions: On-site inspections at homes and community areas (schools, CSCs, Panchayat Bhavans) to assess hygiene practices.

Direct Observation – Infrastructure Performance: Assessment of Plastic Waste Management Units (PWMU), Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) facilities, GOBARdhan units, etc.

Citizen Input: Gathered via mobile apps and in-person interviews, encouraging broad engagement.

Main Characteristics:

Location-verified Data Gathering with Geo-fencing: Guarantees authenticity and ensures entries are verified by location.

Swachhata Green Leaf Rating (SGLR): Monitors the standard of sanitation services.

Best Practices Documentation: Release of Swachhata Chronicles Vol. III as a compilation of effective governmental actions.

Tech Integration: Mobile application for feedback, real-time data tracking, and openness.

Inclusivity & Capacity Development: Engages Swachhagrahis, Training Units, and community governance frameworks.
